Why Do I Do These Things To Myself?

I’ve been thinking… Yeah, yeah, I know… I probably shouldn’t do that… but I already did it, so here we are.

I don’t believe in New Year’s resolutions. I think if you’re going to start something, you should start immediately. Don’t wait. Start today. Thing is… if I start something today… It’s the 31st of December… so technically I’m starting something that rings in the new year.

Does that make it a new year’s resolution? Maybe. But given that I’m starting on December 31st… I’m giving myself a pass. This isn’t a resolution; it’s a commitment that begins today. (Please don’t point out the definition of either of those words, nor synonyms. No need to state the obvious. Please let me pretend. πŸ˜‰ )

Anyway, that leads me to this….

I plan, fingers crossed, to write one blog post a day in 2020.

Now I know you’re probably thinking, yeah right. (Deep down inside, I’m thinking the same thing. Don’t feel bad.)

But! Let me just say this. Two years ago I went on a weight loss journey and committed to working out an hour a day, seven days a week, no exceptions. For five months, the entire time it took to lose 40 pounds, I did just that. Every. Single. Day. No matter what. I worked out. Every once in a while, because life gets in the way, I’d have to cut the time down to 30 minutes, but I never missed a day.

If I could do that then, I can do this now. No excuses.

Now I would like to add here, I still work out regularly, I didn’t just quit. The goals changed once I reached the initial goal I’d set out to achieve. It’s a different amount of time and a different amount of days, and I don’t stick to it quite as rigidly. I sometimes switch or flips days, stuff like that, but I’m still committed to regular exercise, and I stillΒ  make it happen.

If I can work out self-discipline for that, I can make it work for this.

So I’m going to try! Give it my best shot, at least. Let’s hope my best is decent, eh?

Heather.

A Success & A Mess…

I’ve been writing for the last six hours. I finally finished the flash back scenes I’d been working on this week. Wrote the last two today. — Yay!

This just means tomorrow, or maybe later tonight, I will start going back through my novel from beginning to end to clean it up and make it better. Then I’ll print it off and do it again. — Then I’ll get it into the hands of some readers for feedback. No one has read it but me. Some have read scenes, and snippets here and there, but not in its entirety.

So that’s scary. They may tear me to shreds. Hopefully not. I like to think I have some raw talent in me where writing is concerned. Let’s hope others do too!

In other news. Went up town to get some take out earlier, and while we were gone my 85lb dog attempted to climb up on the trash can, so she could get to something that was on the counter.

This plan backfired on her. As the flimsy plastic trash can could not support her weight and so we have surmised she toppled off of it. Taking the trash can down with her. Lid came off, and when we returned, she spotted us and ran away like a dog that knew she was in trouble.

Why you ask? Well, remember the lid came off… and when presented with her two options, rather than walk away like any good obedient dog should… she did no such thing. Clearly, she’s no good obedient dog. She drug everything out of it and scattered it all over the kitchen floor. — Banana peels. Egg shells. Lemons. Strawberries. And so many other such things were scattered all over the place.

So, having said that. Anybody want a dog? She’s cute, really. Her behavior… well, that’s questionable. I’ll even offer a discount if you’ll overlook that last bit about her behavior. Then she’s just cute. And who doesn’t want a cute dog?

Eh, guess we’ll keep her. Love & forgiveness & all that. πŸ˜‰

Anyhow. This is the fifth consecutive day of blogging for me since saying five days ago that I’d blog daily. WordPress is going to tell me I have a five-day streak going on and I’m going to grin like an idiot and pat myself on the back for a job well done. — It’s the little things in life guys. πŸ˜€

With Pen & Paper….

It feels so incredibly good to spend hours with a pen & a notebook.

Typing is great. Flipping open my laptop and writing away the time is good stuff.

However, there is still nothing quite like writing with pen & paper.

I just filled page after page with notes, characters, & plot details. — & for me, doing that on paper is so much more enjoyable than typing it up. — Eventually I have to bust out the laptop for almost all the book writing… but in the beginning stages, before the real story writing begins….. you’ll always find me with a pen & paper.

Book Update: It’s going really well! I’m just getting started, but I’m definitely off & running. — I’ll keep you guys updated. But I think for sure, one of the best things I’ve done lately was deciding to follow my heart & instinct on this whole book change thing. — I’ve known these characters and their stories for years… I just never thought that was the type of writer I should be or the type of genre I should be in. — A tragic love story was never the road I thought I should travel down. But in these characters and that of their family & friends, I have the ability to breathe the life into them that I’ve always known was there. — That’s exciting and it’s even a bit magical. — How could I possibly pass on that?
