A Rainy Writing Day…

It’s a rain, rain, rainy day! Seriously, it has rained all day. Still raining. It’s one thirty in the afternoon, I have work to do, but I’m tossing out a quick blog post first. (Insert thumbs up here!)

I’m sitting at my desk. Which is actually the bar in my kitchen. Sometimes it’s my couch, but today it’s the bar. I have a, well, what I’m actually about to say I’m sure will offend many, but I have a nice, big coffee mug full of water. — Yeah, I drink water out of coffee mugs. I just like the way it tastes out of coffee mugs. I know plenty people would say that water tastes like water no matter what you drink it out of, but I would argue the opposite. What you drink beverages out of changes the way they taste. And I will die on this hill! (With my coffee mug of water!) 😉

I have nine chapters left on this out of order edit I started about a month and a half ago. If you’re wondering why it has taken this long, well I’m writing my third book, too. I write for a couple days, edit for a couple, back and forth we go. I like to break up the monotony of doing the same thing day in and day out. Plus, I feel like my work is better when I get little breaks from it and come back. Whether I’m writing or editing.

I’m almost there. I can see the finish line. Plus, when I started this out of order edit, novel number three was at roughly 15,000 words. We’re now at 50,000! Woo-hoo! 😀 Makin’ progress.

A lot has been accomplished in the last month and a half. As much as I could have done? Probably not. No, definitely not. But, hey, we’ll get it.

I’m going to jump back in now, edit, and listen to the rain coming down outside my window.

Hope you all have a splendid day! – Heather.

In Editing News…

I’ve been editing today.

I just did a chapter that used to be one of my worst ones. No joke. It has seen some of the largest edits over the last year (with the exception of chapter 1) and when I pulled it up I fully expected to wrestle with it some more. No matter what I did, that chapter never seemed to come together right.

Well, apparently, and to my great surprise, I only needed to make six minor changes!

It’s a fantastic read now! I didn’t realize I’d finally accomplished that feat and I’m breathing a huge sigh of relief right now. The last several edits were much more successful than I realized. I once thought, I’mma have to scrap the whole chapter; it’s never going to improve. And yet, here we are, and chapter 15 is good to go.

Now keep your fingers crossed because Chapter 16 is closely tied to it and saw a lot of reworks along with it. Hopefully when I get to it, as this edit round is out of order, it will be a pleasant surprise too! ❤️

If not, well, par for the course… 😂 At least now I know it’s possible. All hope is not lost! 😉

Blueberry Muffins, Squirrels, & Stubborn Puppies…

I have a million things to do tonight and only a handful of hours to do them in, but I figured I’d pop on and chit chat for a few.

Random things from my day….

I ate a blueberry muffin! It was delish! Funny thing. I like blueberries. They smell good, they taste good, they’re blue… I like the color blue, but! I hate the texture of blueberries. I never eat them, okay… almost never. But I decided to try a blueberry muffin today, and it was good. The texture wasn’t quite as bad as when they’re fresh or in some desserts. So that was nice. 😊

I went to the grocery store. Publix, to be specific. Some of y’all know I could live in there. Seriously. I could. I spend hours of time strolling up and down isles while the guy in the meat department is looking at me like, this girl has walked by twenty times already, she crazy. 😂

Here is a picture of my dog as I’m typing this post…. Refusing to look at me because she doesn’t want her picture taken. Seriously. She was looking at me until I tried to take a picture…. Then this is what I get. Manners, she has none. 😂 — She cute, tho! 😘

I did some editing today. For about an hour or two. Nothing crazy. I’ll get plenty of writing time tomorrow though, so it’s all good. 👍

I raked some leaves. That was spur of the moment. Out the kitchen window I saw a squirrel that wanted water, but the bird bath was empty, so I went out to fill it because I felt bad for the local wildlife, and somehow found myself raking up leaves around the shrubs in the backyard. 🤷

Oh yeah, I also did a load of laundry. Took it out of the dryer and folded it and everything. Go me!

So there’s a little peek into my day. You probably don’t care, but on the off chance you do, then this post was just for you! 😘

Heather! ❤️

I Made This Bed, Now I Must Lie In It…

Good Afternoon, Ladies & Gents. (Don’t ask. I don’t know. I’m weird.)

I committed to writing a blog post a day in 2020, and I’m suddenly realizing I have no idea what I’m going to talk about day in and day out. That’s 365 days worth of me chattering on about something or other. Brilliant idea, Heather. Brilliant idea.

Ya know, when I finally committed to writing books, giving it a real go, I had no idea what actually lay ahead of me. Once upon a time, long, long ago, I thought writing would be the hard part. (Can you hear me laughing from over here?) Little did I know, until I’d finished writing the first one, that the writing was the easy part.

What came next was the daunting realization that I’d only just scratched the surface. I had an 85,000 word, roughly 320 page novel, that I had to do something with. And not just do something, but a lot of somethings. Editing. (Which, really is never ending.) Formatting. Networking. Marketing. Book covers. Learning how to use a multitude of new computer programs. Managing a website and social media accounts across various platforms. Self-publishing. Copyright. More writing in between all this. Newsletters and mailing lists. Finding beta readers for feedback. The horror that is waiting on that feedback. Blogging. Maintaining the connections I’ve already made, as well as making new ones. And even with everything I just mentioned, guarantee you I forgot some stuff. There’s more, I’m sure. Not to mention, I’m still unpublished at the moment, which will open up a whole new world of things once I’ve reached that step.

I tell my husband sometimes, usually when I come up against something I don’t want to deal with, I’m like, can I just quit already? — He always says no. You’ll get it. You can do it. — Personally, I think he’s a perpetual optimist when it’s other people, and the next time his boss asks him to make a public speech at a company party, I’m going to say, Oh baby, you’ve got this. You can do it. (I mean I say that anyway, but I’m going to relish it a little more now. 😉 )

But since I can’t quit, and really I don’t want to, I’m going to keep on keeping on.

Which just means you’re going to continue to get a blog a day. And a bunch of books, too.

Much Love,
Heather.

Work, Run, Parakeet?!

I behaved myself like a responsible adult today, and worked. Also, like a responsible adult, 30 minute run, made dinner instead of asking my husband to grab take-out.

I mean y’all… I’m a fully functioning adult! 😀 Procrastinate? What’s that word mean? *shrugs* I don’t know. (Just kiddin…. I know it well.)

I’ve been editing all day. Which I despise. DESPISE!! HATE IT! ABSOLUTELY DON’T LIKE TO DO IT! (I put that in all-caps, not to yell at you, but so that you understood the severity of my dislike for editing.)

I like to tell y’all about my day, what’s going on and stuff, but that’s literally it. Edit. Run. Eat. Oh!! YouTube. I take these little teeny, tiny breaks every hour or so, so I don’t lose my mind, and I watch snippets of YouTube videos sometimes, which I also did.

That is it. I apologize for being boring. I have no thrills for you guys today. Of course, some of you are probably thinking….. Uhhh, girl is always boring. — That’s fair. *nods* I understand.

I’m exciting though. I have stories. I was bitten by a parakeet when I was a kid. Mean little bird. He was this little bright green and yellow feathered bird, and I was feeding him for my grandma, because she had several birds, and that little nugget bit me! Drew blood and everything! I had to get a bandage. And unlike Spider-Man, I did not receive any fancy super powers. I do not have feathers, and I cannot fly.

So there’s an entertaining story time for you. My life is thrilling, and this is riveting content. (It’s not, I apologize. *shakes head*)

Love To All,
Heather! 😀

I’m Still Here!

I’m still here, y’all. 😀

I’m super busy editing. Yes. Still editing. It’s a very in depth edit & the biggest one yet. But it’s the last.

Well. Mostly. I’ll run through one last time and check for small technical things I may have missed. But this weekend I plan to hand it back off to some readers & get a little more feedback & such.

& I can’t wait! Mostly because I wanna get back to writing book 2 & I’m itching to start book 3, but this one is taking up all my time. For good reason though! – Gotta get this bad boy ready for publishing. 😉❤

Alright. I’m gonna get back to it. Will talk to you guys soon!

Heather! 😀

This Is Where We Are!

Hey guys!

3 words to sum up my day! — Beach. Nap. Hulu. 😀

I wasn’t planning to edit tonight, but I’m really trying to finish this massive round of edits I’ve been working on, so I might. — A lot of sentence restructuring because I managed to write waaaaayyy too much passive action. — But! Every bit of the editing is worth it & we’ll get it done guys. 🙂

Right now, I’m kicked back on the couch watching the Spring Baking Championship on Hulu. & as much as it pains me to trade that in for more tedious editing, I really should.

Writing, editing, promoting, marketing, and publishing a book is a lot of work guys. I never really thought much past writing it. But now that I’ve finished that… oh, boy. — It’s far more work than the writing ever was. That was the easy part!

Recently, I mentioned the book was loosely titled, Coming Home, but that it was an incredibly loose title because there are already over 35 books titled Coming Home. — That didn’t seem like a good idea.

So I spent some time mulling it over the other night and managed to nail down a book cover theme for the series. The exact book cover ideas for books 1 & 2. And! I have a completely different loose title for book 1 now. — Forgiving Annaleigh. It’s still subject to change. I won’t know for sure until we get closer. But for now, that’s where it’s at.

We’d already started on a book cover for book 1, but, I wasn’t all that happy with where it was going so I pumped the brakes on that to try & figure out where I we needed to go with it. — Now that’s done! So we’ll be diving back into that & getting to work on the covers for books 1 & 2.

As soon as I’ve finished editing book 1 for the 4th time around, which should be this week, I’ll jump back into book 2. — I’m roughly 20,000 words in & it shouldn’t take all that long to knock it out. — Then onto editing it. Oh, joy. 😉

I’m just going to keep on keeping on. I’m trying to publish the first 3 books in the series this year. Fingers crossed guys!

I think it’ll get easier once I’ve completed the process from writing all the way to publication for book 1. Right now it’s all so new and everything is a learning curve.

Hang tight. It’s coming! 🙂

Heather!
