Just Another Tuesday!

I need to grab some lunch, go to the grocery store, come back home and work, exercise, cook dinner, then whatever it is I choose to do until I go to sleep.

Those are my Tuesday plans. It’s late morning now, and I’m about to get the ball rolling.

It’s cold out today! A high of 45 and low of 28. Now for some of you, I’m sure you’re thinking, Heather… that’s not cold. Well, it is for Coastal Georgia! It gets below freezing maybe 10,11 or so nights a year. Seriously, that’s cold! — Of course, I like cold weather, so I’m not complaining, just saying. It’s a bright and sunny day, too. (Insert thumbs up here!)

I’m going to change clothes, take the dog out, feed the birds, then hit the road. See you all tomorrow!

Heather. ❤️

Vacation… Writing… Day 17…

I actually got some writing done today. We’ve been on vacation, so I feel like that’s a good excuse for not getting much done the last few days. As far as work goes, that is. I did plenty of other things. 😂

I did keep up with blogging though. A post a day, just like I said I’d do. Day 17! 👍

Next week will return to normal, so it’ll be the same grind. Work, work, work…. more work. But until then, I’mma enjoy it.

I told y’all in yesterday’s post that my big ol’ dog whipped her head back and caught me in the chin. I told y’all it hurt, too. Just so you know… still hurts. 😂. I have a small bruise and my jaws are sore, all the way up into my ears. Lol. I told my husband, I was like, she basically assaulted me! 😂 — (She better be glad she’s cute and doesn’t know the first thing about malicious intent… Otherwise, well… Oh, nevermind. We all know my threats are empty when it comes to the dog. 😂)

Anyway, I think I’m going to call it a day now. Maybe climb in bed and watch the history channel. See you all tomorrow!

Quick Pop In!

It’s Sunday night, and I’m busy writing. Some days it’s like pulling teeth, others it’s a breeze. Today, it’s been great. ❤️

As of this moment, I’ve written 1,584 words. About 4 hours worth of writing. That’s roughly about 6 or 7 pages, in case pages is a better breakdown for you than words.

It’s flowing though, and I don’t want to mess that up, so I’m going to bounce back over to the manuscript. As I ended one chapter and began another I realized I hadn’t written a blog post today. I committed to one a day, & usually write them a day ahead, so this is your one!

Yes, it’s a little skimpy, but don’t worry, you’ll read enough from me this year that I’ll more than make up for it. 😘

Have a great Monday, and I’ll check in with you tomorrow!

Incompetent Construction Workers? We Can’t Have That!

I’m hard at work over here, watching Youtube videos of bathroom remodels.

Research never ends. Never, never, never, never, ever ends.

I know a little bit more than one might think, mostly because I regularly watch a few Youtube channels that are currently remodeling houses or building small ones. And so I have some very, very limited knowledge, right? Like I can picture it all in my head… but the terminology, when it comes to being precise, that eludes me.

However, I’m about to dive into a scene where a couple construction workers are remodeling a bathroom, and it needs correct terminology and all that hooplah. So I am doing my due diligence. It will be a good scene that makes perfect sense….. eventually. (Hopefully!) I’ll watch some videos and nail it as best I can, then when I edit later down the road, I’ll work at it even harder.

For anyone who thinks writing books means you just sit down at a computer and write, and that’s it…. No, no. Definitely not.

I called my Dad last year and said hey, “When a car battery is dead, and you hook that little thigamigy to the battery, what’s it going to read to indicate the battery is dead? And what does that reading mean?” He explained all about batteries. Good ones and dead ones. Then I googled what the thigamigy was called, and in the end my character knew what he was doing when he tested a battery. He doesn’t look like a big ole’ dummy now.

I called my Mom last week and said hey, “How much of a sentence can toddlers, going on about 3 years old, actually string together?” — Cause see, I don’t have kids yet, so I don’t know what that’s like. — So we talked about it a little, then I read the dialogue I had for the character and Mom said, yeah. Sounds about right. — I’m taking everything I’ve ever seen or heard from kids I’ve been around, and what I see on tv, things like that, and utilizing everything I can. Including, calling my Mom, who raised both me and my brother, so she ought to know.

Research, looking it up, asking questions, phoning it in, even the smallest of smallest things, it may only take up two sentences in an entire book, but if you don’t know, you got to find out. Because somewhere out there is a reader who is going to know, and they’re going to know if you knew, too.

Which is why research never, ever ends.

Anyway, I’m going to get back to watching remodel videos, that way I don’t end up with the most incompetent construction workers ya ever saw!

Talk Later,
Heather.

I’m Still Here!

I’m still here, y’all. 😀

I’m super busy editing. Yes. Still editing. It’s a very in depth edit & the biggest one yet. But it’s the last.

Well. Mostly. I’ll run through one last time and check for small technical things I may have missed. But this weekend I plan to hand it back off to some readers & get a little more feedback & such.

& I can’t wait! Mostly because I wanna get back to writing book 2 & I’m itching to start book 3, but this one is taking up all my time. For good reason though! – Gotta get this bad boy ready for publishing. 😉❤

Alright. I’m gonna get back to it. Will talk to you guys soon!

Heather! 😀

Thanos… Or Editing? Oh My.

Dread it. Run from it. Destiny still arrives. — & no. Thanos isn’t coming.

This is an entirely different thing and it’s not coming for me, I’m coming for it!

What am I talking about, you wonder? Well.

I’ve spent the last couple of weeks working on my second novel. — I’m 20,000 words in.

The first novel, as some of you already know, is complete. I haven’t even looked at it in like 2 & a half weeks. — After editing it I was like, I can’t even look at this anymore. — And at the time my eyes were the only ones that had ever seen it in its entirety. — I was second-guessing everything and over-editing like you wouldn’t believe. Or maybe you would, I don’t know.

Anyhow. I sent it out for some feedback and now that I have some, I’m going to polish up  a few things with that feedback in mind and run back through it again so that I can send it back out for a second round of feedback.

I haven’t laid eyes on it in a while. So one of two things will happen.

  • I will read it & decide it’s the best written piece of creative work mankind will ever see.

Or!!

  •  I will read it & decide it’s the worst written piece of creative work mankind will ever see.

Cause y’all know there won’t be an ounce of wiggle room. We can only hope! 😉

So that’s what I was referring to. I dread it, but there is no running from it. Destiny shall arrive! — Ah, oh well. It has to get done.

Y’all stick around. I’ll update you in a couple of days & let you know which way it went. I’ll either come on here all elated or a sobbing mess. — Okay, I won’t really be crying. But! dramatic effect guys, dramatic effect. (I have no idea what I’m talking about now. I’m kindly going to stop wasting your time.)

Heather! 😀
