In my world everything seems to be done upside-down, backwards, and sideways. So of course that includes writing. While everyone else I know does the whole nine to five thing, I do the 10pm to 3 am. So naturally it clashes with everything going on around me.
If someone wants to go out & have breakfast, or I need to be somewhere early, I have to pry myself out of bed with just a few hours of sleep & join the world when everyone else does. — Talk about no fun. I’m already so far away from being a morning person that I’m pretty much on the moon as it is. Throw in a little less sleep & I feel like the Grinch on Christmas day.
I feel like I miss so much with my wacko schedule. — Thing is, I write better at night/early morning. I see everything more clearly at 2 a.m. I think better at 2 a.m. I do everything better at 2 a.m. — It’s just everyone is asleep at that time. Not me, I’m paving my own path. The road less traveled it seems.
I feel out-of-place though. I have people who give me that “Why did you sleep til 10 o’clock?” look. Well, because I went to bed at five. — Only then they look at me like, “Five? in the morning? Well that’s not very responsible.” — I feel like a child who stayed up past her bedtime & got in trouble. — It just makes me feel so misunderstood.
At 1:00 A.M, about an hour ago, I was working on some stuff in the middle of my book. (I write out the beginning, middle, and end. Then I make notes about what should be where in the story, and start back at the beginning to write through, chapter by chapter). (I was also watching The Good Wife on Hulu… I love Hulu, but it sure can be bad for business, lol.) About an hour had passed and I was still working on my story. I looked at the clock & thought, I’m not sleepy, I’m so in the zone right now, and everyone else is asleep.
I feel like the odd man out. In all reality I’m only 3 or 4 hours behind everyone else most of the time. Sometimes it’s more, depending on how much I push myself to keep going. — I’m not always writing, sometimes I’m reading, (which, by the way, a writer can learn a lot from) or watching things on Hulu.. 🙂 It’s just I’m still always in my own little world. — but it’s a world in which I excel.
I write during the day too. It’s just the best things come to me late at night or in the early morning hours. So I do more at that time rather than during the day.
Really what brought this whole topic up is that my husband & I are going on vacation in 4 weeks & I’ve got to try & tone down how late I stay up & how early I rise. Otherwise I’ll be a mighty grumpy hiking partner, 🙂
It just got me thinking about how I’m a night person. We’re all so very different. We all approach things in our own ways. Me? I stay up a little later than most, sleep a little later than most, but in the end I accomplish a lot.
So I’m going to get back to my book now…… and The Good Wife, lol. See you guys later! 🙂
